If it gets infected, some ';yellow'; from pus cells will develop. Though the nail looked clean, and you have very little chance of getting a deadly tetanus infection, if it has been 10 or more years since your last tetanus immunization, then go now to get a booster of the combined dT (diphtheria %26amp; tetanus) vaccine. Keep permanent records of all your vaccines and the dates for future reference.I stepped on a nail but it wasnt rusty, and i cleaned it, but its white around my wound. Arent infections red?
i stepped on a nail yesterday that for some reason was in my kitchen....it went through my toes sideways...it wasnt rusty..but i've been studying about it online..and i think im gonna go to the doctor and make sure i get a shot..it freaked me out..ive been puttin peroxide on it

Tetanus is caused by horse feces. It has nothing to do with rusty nails.
The connection was made because people who stepped on rusty nails in horse pastures frequently developed tetanus. The nails were from horses that had thrown a shoe.
Tetanus is anaerobic, meaning cannot live in oxygen. Clean the wound as well as you can with hydrogen peroxide. The oxygen bubbles will kill any tetanus you could have picked up. If you can't clean it well or are worried about it, then go see a doctor to clean it for you. BTW the tetanus shot won't do anything for you if there is already tetanus in the wound. The shot is to build your immune system BEFORE you are exposed. If you already have tetanus you'll need the tetanus immunoglobulin, which can help your body fight the existing bacteria.
Best thing to do would still to be to go to the doctor to get a tetanus injection, even if it wasn't rusty. Red doesn't always mean infected, it can mean inflamed. But because yours is white around it it usually means that there is an infection, i would clean the cut with warm salty water. Keep it covered and clean to prevent any more infection. It's hard to pass judgment as I cant see it and i don't know how bad the injury is.
But if you get any symptoms of infection such as a fever or, heat or redness at the sight you need to go to the doctor. Hope i helped. :)
First of all, when was the last time that you had a tetanus shot? You should always get one when you step on something such as a nail that has been outside- rusty or not. Yes, infections are generally red. Make sure you keep it clean %26amp; if you see any changes at all regarding color, get to the Dr. Use some peroxide to clean it out on a daily basis.
Puncture wounds can easily get infected because they are very hard to clean. If your foot starts to get sore or red and swollen around the injury, you need to see a doctor. But even though it is not infected, you should consider having a tetanus shot if you have not had one in the past 10 years..Keep it clean and covered, and use some antibacterial cream on it........
if you haven't had a tetanus shot recently, you need to get one. The infection that is harmful to you will be in your blood stream, not at the sight. You can get lock jaw without any warning with an injury like that. See a doctor!
hey what happens is the nail can push some of your sock up into your foot causing an infection if it starts looking a little black thats blood poision you can loose your foot soak your foot in epson salt and hot water or hyrodgen peroxide is better....
