Why not go to the hardware store and buy a cheap can of spackle? It doesn't cost much, is the proper thing to use, and you can take it with you to patch little places on the walls of your new dwelling.
Yes. You can also mix baking soda and water to make a paste and use that. This will dry harder and faster than toothpaste.
