Why are the ends of your nails white?

I've been messing with my nails a lot lately, and I don't know why the ends are white. It grows from the opposite end of the white part, so why isn't the new part of the nail white?? JUST WONDERING. =)Why are the ends of your nails white?
it's not white, it's just lighter than the top part. it's because the top part is attached to your skin, so you can kind of see your skin through your nail which makes it appear darker than the end.

what i wonder is, why do some of your nails have white semicircles right below your cuticles? Why are the ends of your nails white?
your nails are actually translucent, but your skin underneath the nail makes them appear to be shaded. if your nails go farther than where your skin ends the color goes away so they turn translucent again(unless you have nail polish on)
It's their natural color (kinda see through white-ish) The whole nail is that color, but you can't see it on the other parts because they are attatched to the skin, so all you see is the color of your skin through your nail.
its common sense.
