Why do our nails turn white after they reach a certain length?

Well you know how most of our nail is a pinking color? That's because it is slightly transparent and is over blood and skin cells. But when our nails grow out it isn't right over our blood to give it that color. Why do our nails turn white after they reach a certain length?
all of our nail is white its jsut becuase its on the skin that makes it look pink. when it grows off of the skin you can see its whiteWhy do our nails turn white after they reach a certain length?
They are white where they no longer are attached to the finger.
