Why are there sometimes white specks on my nail?

Why are there sometimes white specks on my nail? I've found them on my fingernails but not on my toenails. Why are there sometimes white specks on my nail?
I recently went to the doctor and he said it might be calcium deficiency. So since then I've been taking calcium supplements and they have in fact gone away. Why are there sometimes white specks on my nail?
when you bang your hand and get a bruise or something, the injured cells move slowly. very slowly. down your arm and out to your fingernails where they eventually exit the body. it cannot leave any other way like through the bloodstream. it goes thorough the lymphatic system.
Those are where the nail didn't form correctly. Mild trauma, bad diet.
ur not getting enough nutrients from dairy products.
it could either mean a deficiency of some vitamins or minerals

or just small traumas when the nails were forming

you might have hit you hand or something a while ago

and its grown out now
Usually a sign of a vitamin deficiency, particularly a lack of zinc, calcium or protein in your diet.
Sometimes these are small calcium deposits and sometimes they indicate some sort of injury to the nail or nail bed (for example, I sometimes have them after I remove my acrylic false nails.) I wouldn't worry about it in any case, unless they are very very large or cause pain.
The most common reason for this is calcium deficiencies, but I've also heard that they can be caused by just hitting the nail off something by accident (the people who say this usually find a way to disprove the calcium deficiency ... somehow).

I'm quite sure that it means that you're lacking in calcium a little though.
calcium buildup.
